Doreen T – A Leading Lady Boss in The Traditional Male Business World
Mastering the arts of the male-dominated business world, Doreen T. is a one in a million female pioneer in the heavy machinery industry. Founder of Business On Wheels (BOW), the lady entrepreneur who was born and raised in Penang, runs a business in Sabah that provides custom-made Japanese trucks to mobile business companies.
Having gained a vast experience in handling heavy vehicles with KW Machinery Sdn. Bhd. has facilitated Doreen to launch a business that caters to the needs and wants of mobile businesses, such as food trucks, housing developers, mobile radio broadcasts, clothing and apparel, cosmetics, stage and various other line of work. Not only is Doreen a successful business woman who is an expert in heavy machinery, she was a skilled beautician and dance coach, but as fate would have it, this single mother is making wave in a totally different industry.
Doreen aspires to create a new sensation in Sabah through Business On Wheels due to the trending phenomenon of mobile truck businesses. The desired vehicle that a customer wishes comes in a package with a monthly fee that includes a truck logo, kitchen set-up, Facebook and online marketing, as well as branding and financial management, provided that one becomes a member of Business On Wheels. With a guaranteed AP license, Business On Wheels along with their production team, Jarri Engineering, promise to deliver commercialized Japanese high quality lorry trucks based on a customer’s interests, such as altering the interior design of the trucks. Although mobile businesses are still in its infancy in Sabah, the lady boss believes that the new industry would spark a new culture in the state.
With Business On Wheels spearheading the new movement in Sabah, mobile businesses are seen to lead the life and to boost the welfare and lifestyle of the locals there. Through Business On Wheels, companies are not only exposed to the whole marketing package, but experience opportunities that were not opened to them before. Particularly, the majority of members that have collaborated with Business On Wheels consist of those from the F&B industry, such as new start-ups and chefs from reputable hotels and restaurants who see hope in the new field.
Being a supermom herself, Doreen has gone through many of life’s uncertainties, but the iron lady has managed to pick herself up and raise her beloved son. From far, one could not deny that the lady possesses an outstanding aura, but once one approaches Doreen, her softer side begins to illuminate. Inspired by role models A-mei, a Taiwanese singer and Carina Law Kar-Ling, a Hong Kong singer-entrepreneur, Doreen has yet to thank them for where she is today. Her mentor, Sean Lau, is also one who the iron lady looks up to for business confidence and faith.
Doreen is the epitome of female empowerment. Admitting that she had to struggle to penetrate the traditional male-dominated industry at first, she now has gone beyond expectations in achieving to be among the first female leaders in a heavy machinery business operation. From zero knowledge to being a professional in the vehicle line, Doreen views that other women could also embark in a similar journey. Because of who she is and what she has done, Doreen has numerously received the “iron lady” title among her close companions. Her top two wishes are to volunteer in some charity work in Africa, lending a help to those in need, and to commit herself in being a good Buddhist monk. Despite being successful, Doreen does not forget her roots and has a heart of gold.
